Festival de Cannes

It’s such a joy to attend the Cannes Film Festival, I’ve been there several times since 2010, and it’s always wonderful and exciting. The first time I went with a producer client from Canada who lived in Provence. We went to several screenings of festival films and were invited to several networking parties in the evenings, all in between going to meetings with investors. It was a successful trip as there was interest from producers on a few of the scripts. I had been working with another Canadian to write his script back then and he was in Cannes too. We had a blast!

Yes, it’s hard work, being up and at the market early in the morning and barely having time to grab lunch, and the evenings are often busy too with networking cocktail hours and even some meetings after dinner. Usually, towards the end of the festival, there is some downtime; I once went to Grasse on a road trip, it was lovely, and another time I had a day to soak up the sun on the beach. Mostly, however, it’s a 100 miles per minute action.

I later attended a few times with a Director/Producer I was working with in her production company and I learned so much from her. We met three investors who were very interested in our projects and they’re in development now. After joining Susan Mears Agency in 2018, we attended Cannes as a team and it’s been amazing.

What I love most about Cannes is the great buzz in the air

as all the creatives fill the Marche every May for what is probably the biggest film festival in the world.
